As you read our previous blog, “A Lesson from Numbers 13–14: Trusting God’s Direction Without Fear,” we shared how important it is to trust God, walk with Him, and believe that when it is in His will, all things are possible. But now we want to share what that actually looks like in real life, because it is one thing to read about faith—and another thing entirely to live it when real decisions need to be made.
“What is impossible for people is possible with God.” – Matthew 19:26
When we met our first real estate agent last year, we shared clearly what God had placed on our hearts for Rest & Talk. We described the vision—oceanfront, cabins, nature, a lodge, space for retreat, a deaf home church—everything aligned with what God is calling us to build.
“Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.” – Habakkuk 2:2
We did find a property at one point, but we didn’t have peace. There were many zoning restrictions, meaning we would not be allowed to operate retreats, have a deaf home church, or carry out key parts of the vision. It looked good on the outside… but underneath it was basically saying, “Nice dream… but you can’t actually do it here.” That was a major choking point.
At the same time, the agent had a very fast-paced, business-driven mindset. Everything was about moving quickly and getting the deal done.
Meanwhile, we were like, “Wait… we’re not ordering fast food here.” This isn’t a quick drive-thru decision where you regret it five minutes later.
This is a God assignment. It requires prayer, discernment, and involvement of the board.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” – Proverbs 3:5–6
But that approach didn’t seem to fully land. Because apparently, if you’re not rushing, you must not be serious. Which is interesting, because Scripture says:
“Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.” – Isaiah 40:31
So we did something simple—but not always easy.
We waited on God.
Fast forward to April 2026. We found another property that looked very promising—almost too perfect. It had everything we were looking for. Naturally, we asked the agent to book a viewing. But before moving forward, we prayed, “God, if this is not Your timing, close the door immediately.” And He did.
Suddenly, the agent required us to sign documents and rush into a transaction before even viewing the property. That didn’t sit right. It felt forced and out of alignment. One of those moments where everything inside you says, “This is not peace… this is pressure pretending to be opportunity.”
“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.” 1 Corinthians 14:33
In that moment, we knew—this was not it.
God made it clear: let the agent go. I will bring the right one.
So we parted ways peacefully. No tension, no hard feelings. And honestly… it felt like taking off a heavy backpack you didn’t realize you were carrying.
“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” – Proverbs 16:9
Then something incredible happened.
We found a Christian real estate platform and submitted a request. Within 30 minutes—God answered. Thirty minutes. Not a long waiting season. Not a complicated process. Just… answered.
He connected us with an agent who went to Bible college, served as a pastor, and is deeply rooted in faith. His father is a senior pastor in Alberta, and now he works in real estate in Victoria, BC. We connected instantly. It wasn’t just business—it was alignment. He understood how God leads. He understood patience. He understood the process.
And we were like, “Okay God… we see what You did there.” Not subtle at all. More like God saying, “Let me make this very clear for you.”
As we looked at the property again, it reminded us so clearly of Numbers 13 and 14. Joshua and Caleb saw the land and said, “Let’s go at once to take the land… We can certainly conquer it!” – Numbers 13:30
The other ten spies said, “Nope. Too hard. Too big. Too many problems.”
Same land. Same opportunity. Completely different mindset.
That’s what fear does—it can stand in the middle of a miracle and still only see problems.
And here we are, standing in that same kind of moment.
Before even finding this property, God had already given us a vision—a lodge over 10,000 square feet, cabins, oceanfront, large acreage, proper zoning, space for retreats, a deaf home church, conferences, gardens, livestock, a dock, and more. Then we found this property—and it was almost exactly that. A 10,667 square foot lodge. Two cabins. Oceanfront. 83 acres. Zoning that works.
At that point, you almost laugh and say, “Okay God… You’re making this very obvious.”
“This is more than all we can ask or think.” – Ephesians 3:20
Yes, there are restrictions—environmental, archaeological, septic—but these are not deal breakers. They are part of the process. Every Promised Land seems to come with “giants.” But giants don’t cancel God’s promise—they reveal whether we trust Him.
It’s like finding a diamond in the rough. You don’t walk away because it needs work. You recognize what it can become. Or like buying a fixer-upper and acting surprised that it needs fixing. Of course it does.
Now, some might say, “Fifteen million dollars? That’s huge.”
And yes—it is.
But again, the ten spies saw size and stopped. Joshua and Caleb saw God and moved forward.
“If the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into that land and give it to us.” (Numbers 14:8)
So the real question isn’t, “Is this big?”
The real question is, “Is this from God?”
Because if it is, then size is not the issue—obedience is.
We are not called to shrink the vision to fit what feels safe. Sometimes “starting small” sounds wise… but sometimes it’s just fear trying to stay comfortable and calling itself wisdom. There’s a difference.
“We live by believing and not by seeing.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7
God has been involved with Rest & Talk since 2016. That’s almost a decade.
This didn’t just suddenly appear out of nowhere like a last-minute idea or a random opportunity. This has been years of obedience, serving, building, learning, stretching, and staying faithful when no one was watching.
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.” – Luke 16:10
It’s like an iceberg. People only see what’s above the surface—the property, the vision, the big number, the “wow” moment. But they don’t see what’s underneath: the years of ministry, the quiet prayers, the unseen sacrifices, the small steps of obedience that built the foundation.
And honestly, if people saw the full iceberg, they might not be so quick to question the direction.
Because this next step—the retreat centre—is not the beginning. It’s the continuation. It’s what happens after years of saying “yes” to God.
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1
So we continue. Not rushing. Not forcing. Not doubting. But trusting.
Because just like Joshua and Caleb, we believe this:
If God is in it, then it is possible.
And we are not afraid to move forward in that.
This was never just about finding the right property—it has always been about trusting the right God. And after nearly a decade of His faithfulness, we’re not standing here wondering if He will come through—we’re standing here knowing that He already has, and that everything ahead is simply the continuation of what He started.
